Project activities and results
Fieldwork research in the mixed communities:
Within the fieldwork research the three partners identified and interviewed 17 mixed couples in order to find out their life stories. 11 of them accepted to be filmed. Real Society Foundation realized interviews with seven mixed Romanian-Turkish couples. Journalist Association “Balkan Forum” identified six mixed Bulgarian-Turkish couples, but only three of them accepted to be filmed. Youth Forum Bitola realized four interviews with mixed Macedonian-Turkish couples.
Short-film production:
As a result of the fieldwork activities, each of the three partners realized a short film relevant for intercultural mixture. In order to stimulate the creative expression and to present the intercultural mixture issue from different perspectives, each partner created its own screenplay and had its own approach on the issue.
„Visual witnesses” collection:
Each life story was sustained by a series of “visual witnesses” (photos of family members made during the interviews, photographs of objects that reflect the existence of two cultures living together, photos from the personal photo albums of the interviewees) which reflect the image of the two cultures living together. 240 photos were gathered during the fieldwork research.
Photo exhibition:
From a total of 240 photos only 97 were selected for the photo exhibition. In the time period 20-27 of October the exhibition was presented within the National School of Political Studies and Public Administration. The exhibition premiere took place on October 29 at the National Theatre Bucharest (in the foyer of Amfiteatru Hall and Sala 99). In the time period October 29 – November 2, the photo exhibition could be viewed by over 850 people who attended theatre plays played at the Amfiteatru Hall and Sala 99.
Short-film presentation:
The opening of the photo exhibition was followed by the presentation of the three short films produced within the project: „Our Stories” - Romania, 29 min 03 sec; „Needle in a Haystack” – Bulgaria, 19 min 56 sec; „Rumelia: The Crossroads of Cultures”, Macedonia, 16 min 06 sec. The three short films were presented in the Sala 99 at the National Theater Bucharest.
